Replication vs. Duplication
When choosing between disc replication and duplication, it's important to identify the objectives of your project, as well as the differences between the two processes. Duplication is a copying method where recordable disc are placed into a writer drive and the master data is etched into a recordable layer of the disc using a laser. This is the same method used in the disc drive on your home computer. While duplicated discs are a great way to get a small number of discs in a short amount of time, they are not always compatible with all CD or DVD players. Replication is the process that involves the creation of the disc itself. Polycarbonate pellets are melted onto a metal stamper containing the master data. Additional reflective and protective layers are added to ensure that each disc can be played on any CD or DVD player. While replicated discs have a higher minimumto run and take a few days longer to make, they offer 100% playability - guaranteed.
